Flag Football

Joshua and Joseph are both playing flag football this fall.  Both have red jerseys and wear #3.  Here are some pictures of their second games.

Joshua blocking (you aren't allowed to touch your opponent):

Attempting a "tackle" (his killer instinct is getting a little stronger with each game):

 Defense (I think):

Some day, this one will get to play, too.  Actually, he could play on a four year old team right now, but come on!

Joseph is on a 10 and 11 year olds team, which means there are some 6th graders on his team.
I'm not sure what's going on in this picture.  That's Joseph with the silver sports goggles:

Joseph is one of three kids playing quarterback on his team this year.  He's doing a great job!

Field Trip

I was chosen to be a chaperone for Joshua's class trip to Roper Mountain Science Center.  Our first class was on reptiles and amphibians.  Because of it, Joshua has decided he wants to be a herpetologist when he grows up.

He actually held this tree frog on his hand, but I was helping another group and didn't get a picture of it.

Black rat snake:

Corn snake:

After lunch we saw a presentation at the planetarium, which I obviously didn't photograph.

My bus partner:

Before we left school that morning, one of the assistant principals got on the bus and reminded the students that every time the bus stopped, they were to be silent.  I thought, "Yeah, right."  But sure enough, at every stop sign, stop light, or stop in traffic, the kids raised their "quiet signal" hand in the air and stopped talking.  On the way home it took a few more seconds for everyone to catch on, but they did it.  It was quite impressive.

Missed it by That Much

Joshua missed getting to be his own Jack O' Lantern by two days.

Now we'll start working on the other top tooth so he can say all he wants for Christmas is his two front teeth!

Halloween 2011

This year's Halloween costume plan started with Jeremiah wanting to wear the cheetah/jaguar/leopard costume his brothers wore when they were four.  Then Joshua decided he would be a panther to coordinate with Jeremiah.  Joseph couldn't quite decide whether he wanted to dress up or not.  When we discovered he had football practice that night, that helped his decision.  The younger two and I headed out trick-or-treating while Tony and Joseph had practice. They joined us for the last half hour, but Joseph stayed at the street with the grown ups.

Joshua's costume was super simple.  I sewed ears to the hood of his jacket and a tail to the hem:
(Jeremiah's has a tail, too, but it's hard to see here.)

Whenever anyone told Jeremiah he was a cute tiger (really, people?), leopard, cat, etc. he would tell them he was a cheetah.  Sometimes he added "a really smart" cheetah.  I'm not sure where that part came from.  Sometimes he also felt the need to introduce everyone, including me, by name.  He was quite the entertainer.

Joshua wanted fangs and scary markings on his face so no one would think he was a cat, because clearly cats are girls' costumes.  Unfortunately, the people in our neighborhood didn't get the memo, because they called him "cute" or "cat" or "dog" several times.  Oh, well.

The big boys drew their pumpkin designs and I carved them.  Joshua's is the drooling jack-o-lantern.  Joseph's is the tri-birds from Angry Birds.

In case you're worried about Joseph's lack of candy, we dump everyone's candy into one bag at our house and everyone shares.  Even Mommy.
